My Mac Pro Final Cut system is setup with a Sonnet Tempo E4P host adapter and a Fusion D500P external RAID. I love this setup. It’s super fast! Sonnet regularly updates its Tempo drivers adding improved performance and support for new features. Since updating to their last drivers, 2.1.1, I’ve noticed that I can no longer eject my RAID and turn it off while my Mac Pro is still on. This causes a kernel panic and forces me to reboot. Not a big deal but I’m very particular about everything in my Mac Pro running smoothly!
So I emailed Sonnet’s tech support and apparently only a few users have reported this problem. It turns out they have been working on the 2.1.2 drivers and have already squashed this bug. The drivers are still in beta but their tech support guy was kind enough to send them to me. I’ve had to deal with Sonnet’s tech support once before and I must say I’m very impressed. They reply right away and are always very helpful.
I’m going to install the new drivers and report back on the performance.
–Edit–
Great news! After installing the 2.1.2b3 drivers the kernel panic bug has disappeared. Great work Sonnet!
In the meantime here’s what they have fixed since 2.1.1:
• New in Version 2.1.2b3
– Adds support for 10.5
– Adds support for WD My Book and Seagate Free Agent Pro (USB & SATA dual interface)• New in Version 2.1.2b2
– Improves handling of unplanned cable disconnects during I/O
– Changed handling of 4726 and 4723 enclosures to soft reset all possible drives
– Fixed a 10.4.9 introduced unrecognized PCI Express transaction prior to driver loading
