Red One

The long wait is over! As of last Friday, the first 25 Red One cameras have been shipped off to their lucky owners. Some users reported back over the weekend with their hands on experiences and some even posted unboxing pictures.

For those of you not familiar with the Red One camera… Where have you been? This is only the single most anticipated digital camera in existence today. They say it’s the first digital camera that’s better than film. The indy film industry has been going nuts about this baby! The excitement has even caught some of Hollywood’s attention.

Peter Jackson, The Lord of the Rings, King Kong, need I say more, has been doing some extensive testing of the Red One. He’s shot a WWI short film entitled “Crossing The Line”. The picture quality is amazing and what we’re seeing is only the 1K version. The Red One camera shoots at 4K.

If you want to see the “Crossing The Line” trailer head over to Red’s gallery for the Torrent download.

Alternatively here’s the trailer from YouTube:

An other big Hollywood name to jump on the Red band wagon is Steven Soderbergh. Steven Soderbergh, “Traffic”, “Ocean’s Eleven” and “Erin Brockovich”, is all set to shoot “The Argentine” and “Guerrilla” next year using Red cameras. Naturally he’ll be using more recent cameras than the prototypes used by Peter Jackson.

Here’s a picture of Soderbergh in Spain on the shoot of “Guerrilla”.

Here’s a quote from Soderbergh about his early tests with the Red One:

“This is the camera I’ve been waiting for my whole career: jaw-dropping imagery recorded onboard a camera light enough to hold with one hand. I don’t know how Jim and the RED team did it–and they won’t tell me–but I know this: RED is going to change everything.”
